How to Get Here

A little over an hour’s flight from most parts of Florida, Green Turtle Cay is an island in a chain of islands in the Bahamian Out Islands called the Abacos. The best way to travel to Bluff House is to fly into Treasure Cay International Airport (TCB airport code) from Florida, take a 5-minute cab ride to the Treasure Cay ferry dock ($10), then a 20-minute ferry boat ride to New Plymouth ($13) or ask your Ferry boat Captain to drop you off at the Bluff House dock in White Sound ($15). You can also fly into Marsh Harbour International Airport (MHH airport code) which is a 35-minute cab ride (approximately $80) to the Treasure Cay ferry dock.

Some Guidelines ...
  • Do NOT forget your passport!
  • You'll find the Abacos easy going and easy to get around. Bahamian currency trades at par with US currency, which is accepted openly, and often preferred. Most established businesses accept Visa and Master Card credit cards, but having cash on hand is recommended
  • Water is drinkable and power is reliable; phones operate and internet is prevalent. All-in-all, Green Turtle Cay has a long history accommodating visitors and that tradition continues.
A valid passport is required to enter the Bahamas. Before arriving, you should fill out and sign a Bahamas immigration form to give customs, keeping a portion of the card in hand until departing. If traveling by air, we recommend that you carry a change of clothing and your necessary personal items such as medication in your carry-on bag in the event you arrive before your bags.

US currency is accepted in the Bahamas. Other currencies should be exchanged for Bahamian dollars or US dollars prior to traveling. The First Caribbean Bank is located in New Plymouth and is open on Monday and Thursday only and does have an ATM machine that accepts US ATM cards and dispenses Bahamian dollars. The resort accepts MasterCard, VISA, as well as travelers checks drawn on U.S. banks.

It's a small airport. Upon arrival into Treasure Cay, you'll clear immigration, pick up your luggage and clear Customs, then exit the arrival room and airport. Generally, several taxi vans will be waiting - they pretty much time their schedules based on scheduled arrivals and communication with the airport as to inbound charters. Please take a taxi to the Treasure Cay Ferry Dock ($13), and transfer by water taxi ferry to the Bluff House dock ($15). The approximate trip by land and sea is 30-minutes.

Upon arrival to the marina, you must clear your vessel and crew with Customs, which is located in New Plymouth and pay a fee which is based on vessel length: $150 per vessel 30' and under; $300 per vessel over 30'. The fee includes clearance, cruising permit and fishing permit for up to four people with a charge of $20 per additional person over the age of six years. Fees are valid for two entries within a 90-day period.

Only the vessel's captain is permitted ashore for purpose of clearing Customs and Immigration, with the remainder of crew required to remain aboard until clearance procedures are completed. Customs and Immigration accepts CASH ONLY. Keep your receipt from Customs for your return visit so you don't have to repay entrance within the 90 days. All visitors entering The Bahamas must make a customs declaration upon arrival. Adult visitors are allowed to bring in 50 cigars, 200 cigarettes or one pound of tobacco, one quart of spirits and personal effects. Specifically, Bahamas Customs requires the following:
  • Vessel's Registration
  • Completion of the Maritime Declaration Form
  • Completion of the inward Report Form
Everyone on board must have proof of citizenship and fill out an Immigration card. U.S. citizens can present a passport. Before leaving, be sure to surrender your copy of the Immigration Card. Specifically, Bahamas immigration requires the following:
  • Completion of Inward Passenger & Crew Manifest form
  • Completion of an Immigration Card for each person arriving on the vessel
If you have a firearm on board, you must declare it with Customs. You must provide the serial number and manufacturer, plus an exact count of ammunition. You are allowed to have a firearm on your boat but you cannot take it off unless you have a permit form the Bahamian police ahead of time. Weapons must be under lock and key at all times. Any infraction of this law is dealt with severely.

The current fee is $150 for boats up to 30' in length and $300 for boats over 30 feet. This covers a vessel with three persons or fewer. The fee covers the cruising permit, fishing perming, Customs and Immigration charges and the $25 per person departure tax for up to three persons. The clearance fee entitles the vessel to two entries during a 90-day period. You must have the receipt when you return. Each additional person above three and over the age of six is charged a $25.00 departure tax. If you plan to stay longer than 12 months, special arrangements must be made with Bahamas Customs and Immigration.

Regular hours for Bahamas Customs and Immigration Officers are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Officers are on-call during holidays and weekends. There is no overtime charge.
